Round two! I was so
excited to go back in the next couple of days for the girls practice. I felt like they would be warmed up to me by
then and everything would be as good as gold.
I showed up kind of early this time because I like getting little
practice in myself before the girls show up.
Coach Mark has three daughters on the team and all three seemed very
fond of me already. The little girl who
was in 2nd grade really looked up to me. She came up to me when I got there and immediately
asked me if I wanted to pass the ball or juggle. I was happy; I felt like some of girls
started to enjoy having me around. Then
more and more girls started to show up, and then finally they started warm ups,
I walked around helping out with the little girls. I passed with one of the girls named Lizette,
she really started to stick on me. She
started asking about me, and what I like to do for fun, and she just wanted to
get to know me and be my friend.
Towards the middle of practice they did a scrimmage in a big
box, the box was to help them use all of the space and teach them where to
go. On the outside of the box there was
another team who they could use to pass to, kind of like a neutral player. I was in the middle of this box playing with
them and directing girls where to go.
They are like parakeets, they like to copy what I do. So I always have to be precise, because I want
to make sure they copy the right thing.
The way you scored a goal was if you connected eight passes with your
teammates, and the losers had to run a pretty far distance. They had fun though, and today I helped teach
them space on the field.
I realized from today that to the girls, I am like a role
model. Someone that they can look up
to. I’m not the best person in the
world, but when I step out on that field I make sure that I am the nicest, hard
working person that I can be. I don’t want
to go out there and cuss and teach them things that are wrong, because that’s not
what I’m there to do. I’m there to teach
them the basics of soccer, and show how to be a leader. For the most part though, another fun filled
two hours with the girls.
This is Lizette and I after a hard working day at practice. She is the girl that I did the passing drill with, she is probably one of my favorites out there.

It sounds like you had a great time, and that's all that matters. I'm glad you got to volunteer and do something that you're so good at and you enjoy doing. While I was reading your post, I kindof got to thinking that volunteering somewhere with kids would be a lot of fun..so thanks for that! And yea, great job :)
its sounds like you're having lots of fun teaching the kids the basics of soccer. It's a nice feeling, being a role model to these kids, I kind of have the same feeling when I am volunteering too. I understand being a leader can be hard to do, but when you try your best I know you can still make a difference for these kids. I am also happy that you picked a place to volunteer at that you really enjoy doing and good at. Well keep up the good work.
This looks very fun to volunteer for. Im glad you are doing something that is impacting the kids in a special way. They are looking up to you and its great that you are showing them a good example because it will help them become great kids.
