Rachel and i volunteered at my halau (hula studio) to teach the litte girls how to dance. My auntie julie is always looking for a break from teaching because it can get tiring. We helped teach them the haule hula dance. We had to keep them aligned because they are kids and they lose focus quite a bit. Rachel helped with the kids that were a little shy to dance and made them loosen up with some silly streatches. We had to teach them three dances so it wa a challenge you have to have a lot of patience with them but its a great experience because hula has a story behind it and teaching the little girls this was a great experience.
The halau merahi o tehani has been in my family for over 25 years my family owns it teaching kids, teens, and adults to dance tahitian and hula. While teaching tahitian and hula we teach the meaning behind the dances and the history behind the islands. My auntie Julie runs this studio and my mom Laly works with her as well. It helps you appreciate the islands it not just a tourist place with grass skirts and all that like people make it up to be its more than that. Teaching little ones and watching them grow up dancing and learning so much and being a part of teaching them makes us feel good.
In our experience working with the little girls helping them learn to dance was tiring and frustrating because they were little kids and you need to have a lot of patience with them. When the get off task and start messing around it was a challenge but rachel and i got through it. In the end its rewarding for us because we taught them something and we got to know a pretty great group of girls and taught them its ok to let lose and not be shy, to keep a good posture, and smile big. At the end we rewarded them with stickers. We look forward to teaching again.

teaching kids how to dance must have been a really tough job since they don't know what they are doing. Did you guys get basic instructions on how to teach them before you started teaching them?
