Yamslam!

The beginning of my next two hours, I walked into room 28 and saw teachers and students playing a game. I had a seat at the table next to Megan and she was happy to see me. I hadn't met her before so she introduced herself to me and I did the same. She was very social unlike a few of the kids. Immediately she asked me to help her count the chips to see if she possibly won the game, which unfortunately she didnt, but she got a big 235 points. Soon after my arrival the game was over and they asked me to join in. I had never played the game before or even heard of it, so as we went along they taught me how to play. About halfway through that game after Megan had a few laughs because I didn't know how to play, she decided she didn't want to play anymore. So James and I were left playing with two of the teachers. It was very loud that day and it was really fun although Megan didn't want to play the game with my anymore. At the other table was Marjan drawing with Cosmo, Sheena, and a few other students and they were taking a picture so i looked over and saw Paul with the camera trying to take the picture. He was holding the camera and said. "1,2,3... say Washington High School!", i couldn't help but giggle along with everyone else. It was pretty cute when he said it especially because he was excited to even be taking the picture in the first place.

The next day Marjan and I went in there were only a few kids in there so it was unusually quiet. At first we had a seat at the table with Cosmo and drew pictures for a bit until a teacher asked us if we wanted to play Uno with some of the other students. We agreed to play and invited anybody who wanted to play over to the table, it ended up being Marjan, James, Ethan, Sheena, Shbeendu, and myself. At times it was a little difficult to try and facilitate the game because Shbeendu would try to go when it wasn't his turn, James would keep walking away and we didn't want to just skip his turn, and Shbeendu kept telling James to be quiet whenever he talked. I learned that in situations like that you just have to be patient with them and be firm but still be nice. Ethan and Sheena work really well in a group setting. Sheena is more quiet and laidback and Ethan is very social and really helped out with the game and trying to keep it going smoothly. After we got the hng of things the game started moving along and I was the winner! Then we started a new game and it took a while and Marjan and I had to leave. With every new day in that room comes a new experience, you can really tell that the teachers and students have a great relationship, they are really like one big happy family which is great to see! I personally heard one of the teachers say after Paul said he go "double bingo" that "He is so damn cute! I could never get tired of him, I love that kid." It's also awesome to walk in and get all the kids yelling "Hi!" and asking you to do things with them. I look forward to more great experiences here in room 28, it really is great being around each and every one of those kids and I will never forget my experiences with them.

Shbeendu... gotta love his excitement when it comes to competitive games! I think we should try to communicate with James more. He seems to isolate himself from everyone else. Maybe its what he's going through? Or maybe he needs more attention? We'll find out. Cannot wait to visit these wonderful kids again, :)
