Arriving at Tule Ponds once mor left me with a sense of familiarity; I know where the tools are, where the front desk is, and, most importantly, I know that halfway through the supervisor gives us cookies and water.
This time I would not be left with only peanut butter cookies to satisfy the hunger of a warrior.
That must sound ridiculous. But I really do prefer chocolate chip cookies over their peanut butter relatives.
Our task this week was to clear weeds out from behind the front office. With the constant sting of the sun and the lack of threatening thorns, I am so glad I decided to wear shorts.

The supervisor told us (mostly Auriana in my opinion) that we need to fill the holes of the weeds we dig up so little children don't trip, fall and break their ankles. Two ducks got their groove thing on right in the middle of the pond, which was right next to us. One of the two middle schools kids we were working with stabbed the ground in front of a weed i was working on. I was about to say thank you when he spit out that I was "spending like ten minutes on that one weed." I'm not about to cut the root off at at point just so it can grow back again. I'm pulling the whole thing out, and that particular weed had a root an inch and a half in diameter! I will get to the tip of the problem to stop it, not cut corners, thank you very much. Another thing we conversed about was the topic of plant equality.

Are we doing the right thing by pulling all those weeds out? The answer is obviously yes. It's common knowledge that weed roots strangle the roots of their distant, delicate relatives. It's akin to an abusive relationship, or at least an unhealthy one. Weeds can even look beautiful on the surface, while underneath, hidden from the eyes of humans, they are slowly killing every flower that dares to come near it's growing radius of roots. So, we are stopping that from happening, so that flowers may live a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle. Plus, the particular weeds we were pulling weren't even aesthetically beautiful, so that's just a plus. And some of them had thorns, so people and animals could have gotten hurt on them. I feel that this task was much more equitable than the one before.

HAHA. I think your post is very entertaining and funny. Also, I like how you guys are so into your volunteer work, especially of how you guys pose for your pictures. I think helping to make our surrounding beautiful is something that is not appreciated enough by most people. Obviously, this job is not the easiest thing to do especially when you have the sun tiring you down. I think without people who help or volunteer to make our community clean and beautiful, our city will look like garbage. At time we take these things for granted and not notice the people that provide us with a suitable place to live in. So good job on your volunteer work and keep it up(=
