Alicia and I volunteered at Halau its Alicia's dance studio that her aunt owns. After Alicia introduced me to everyone and we got started. She taught me three of the dances and i followed what she did. We also taught the younger ones the three dances it was really fun to watch them because they were focused on learning the dances but they were also little so they got really side tracked and we had to make sure they stayed in line. It was hard because you’re trying to dance and show them at the same time and keep all of them in line. It was really fun though because you got to see them learning and they knew what they wanted to become in the hula dancing.
When we took a break for awhile Alicia and her aunt told me about the history of it all the dancing and how its not exactly what all the tourist make it out to be. It’s so interesting how they start to tell all the history to the younger girls and they understand but they don’t and they grow up with it and so its cute to see how when they are young they know what they are doing because it’s in the family and the are just raised with it and they become older and stick with it.
Alicia and i had an interesting experience helping teach the little ones how to hula. I helped make sure that the ones that were too shy know that it was okay to let loose and dance. When I helped with keeping them aligned and to stay on task and focused even though I try not to get frustrated with kids so it was kind of hard for me. Especially when we were there teaching for about over an hour and a half because they are so little but others are older it’s difficult to teach at one level but In the end it was worth it because the little girls were so cute and you can’t get frustrated with them. I got to know all of them and I really would like to come back with Alicia and teach again.

Sometimes, you can get frustrated when it's hard to teach them but they are kids and patience is needed to make them understand. And I think it's really fun teaching dancing.
