I would have liked to have found a new help shelter for the final post of reaching for equity but I was unsuccessful with my search. However, finishing up my project with Viola Blythe did have its perks. I was glad to have spent my free time at a place that focuses so much on a social issue that is so present. People go hungry each and every day, and that was an issue that I feel nobody should have to go through. When people used to throw away food what they didn't want, I used to say "Hey, There's starving kids in Africa" implying for them not to waste it. But in doing this project I have realized that starvation is a problem that is much closer to home. It has been quite eye opening in the respect that focusing on this social issue has helped me be thankful for the things my family and friends have.
In searching deeper into Viola Blythe's target population, I talked to Debby who runs things down at the shelter. She told me that they try to focus on the Mexican American population of Newark. This made scene considering that the shelter was neighbor to a park that was right in the middle of the community just over the train tracks. I reflected on this with my family when I got back home which also helped me learn about why they choose to help foreign people. We came to the point that they most likely focus on people of Hispanic descent, like myself, because of the hard laborious work that they partake in. Even though the labor is for the benefit of the community, the workers of these middle class families cant always make enough to support their family. That point alone was enough to make the cause of ending hunger amongst the working class of our community justified to me.
Finishing the project now, I feel much happier with what I got out of it. To be honest I didn't think that my reflection about this issue would be as deep as it was. Doing the project was cool and I'm excited to have taken part in reaching out a helping hand. The only way we can make these issues go away is to inform people around us about them and take action.

I really admire how you have personally been affected by this issue. Helps relate a lot more to this social problem that is going on today.
That is great that you found reasoning as to why that focused on a specific population. This is truly a social issue that is closer than we think and I think that we should all be thankful for what we have and not what we don't.
I think that its pretty cool that you are taking away from the whole experience you are having. It great you are helping with a strong and important social issue.
