June 9, 2012 was the last day for the Native American Program. They ended the program with a Pow Wow, which is a small gathering where they have many different activites throughout the day. They have many booths like jewelry, leather, shoes, purses, and other interesting things of the Native Americans. When we arrived the first thing that i saw was all the booths filled up with people. They had a variety of things in every booth. Me and Jazmin had enough time to go to all of the booths. But there was one that caught my attention, it was a booth with hand made leather purses and shoes and another booth with handmade pipes and flutes. The thing that was very interesting of the leather purses and shoes was that they looked and how sturdy they seemed. They felt very comfortable and smooth. What i liked about the pipe booth was the meaning of the pipe. The meaning of the pipe is the transition from a boy to a man. When a boy proves to be a man him and his father smoke and this is how they bond. I found that very interesting because i have never heard of that before.
Something else that caught my attention was their outfits, they had all kinds of nice colored decorated beads and feathers. I really enjoyed my last day at the Pow Wow. It was really fun and i learned so much about the Native American culture. Hopefully Jazmin and I can go back next year. We choose this program because we both felt that we didnt know much about the Native Americans. But in these couple of weeks I learned so much about them and how my culture is the same and different from theres. Hopefully the kids learned many things from us, not just our culture but how everybody is different in each others way.
