All Kids Aren't Brats

I went to go visit my old elementary school, and they had an afterschool program called Prop49. Which was a program that had fun things for the kids to do, like soccer, basketball, drawing..etc.Its basically letting kids find what they like to do, or what they're good at. I think it's a great program for elementary schools because if school wasn't their thing, then maybe sports will be something they could be very successful in. The kids were so excited for afterschool and to stay just to play and have time with their friends. To them it was another recess that they liked to do and last longer than usual. If you actually got to know these kids, they aren't bad after all. Most of these kids have no choice, but to stay there because their parents are still at work and cant pick them up till later. This program ends around 6pm. There was one little boy who didnt was still waiting on their mom, he looked pretty sad. I thought it was because he wasn't dont playing games. Although, I asked him why he's so sad, and I would never think he would give me that response. He said he didn't want to go home since there's nothing to do and his parents don't pay attention to him. It made me pretty sad to hear that.

The social issue is that afterschool programs are very helpful for those families who don't have the time to pick up their child afterschool. Single parents have to work more than one job to support their families, and good thing these programs end at 6pm which is a good time for those who can't pick up their kids at 3pm. Plus it gives kids the time to get some homework done or even give them something to do because they don't have much  to do at home. Also I think that these programs are good for those kids who are neglected at home, people who help out these programs are really caring towards these children, and it really brings the angel out of them. I would most definitely volunteer again for these afterschool programs. Especially visiting my old elementary school.

you made some strong points. and you're absolutely right, kids do need things like this.. because if they're not going to be good in school, sports might just be their thing. it's nice that you got to visit your elementary school, i'm sure that brought back many memories. it sounds like you had a good time, which is great! :)
