Revisiting an Old Spot

Okay so I was pretty desperate for a place to volunteer. Luckily an anonymous individual thou who shall not be named referred to this place called Tule Ponds.. So now I learned that many volunteer places HAS to be through word of mouth. Then so I arrived! It hit me. I went to this place back in a 6th grade field trip! Except it was referred to as Tyson Lagoon. Same thing really. When I arrived at the spot, I couldn't find anyone working in there. I checked the building. Nothing. So I took a step outside and someone ( I suppose is the volunteer manager, but I'll call him Beardo since he has a beard) found me and the other lost workers.
He showed us to our post we were basically carrying branches large and small to a big pile near the entrance. It was quite dirty to the point I was a tad disgusted, but it didn't really matter to me. I went back and forth for about an hour, few times waiting for Beardo to cut down more branches with his chainsaw for us volunteers to carry back.

At about 11, it was break time. I had like a small cookie and water (wasn't that hungry plus the cookie was so stale). I chilled out for about 20 more minutes and it was back to work. This time, I cut down the smaller/dead branches on my own with loppers and then carry the branches back. I've come to the conclusion that these loppers are terrible and can barely cut at all. So Beardo gave me this saw knife and the work went by a lot faster. I made a huge pile all on my own. In the last half hour, the rest of us carried the branches back and I waited for my brother to pick me up and so I went off.

Overall, I think the job was pretty fun. The idea of really enhancing the appearance of a park, seems like a great idea to me and I think it would make the field trip for those 3rd/6th graders from Parkmont alot more enjoyable. Umm...anything for the kids, right?! Besides, parks and gardens like these are suppose to look physically appealling anyways. It's not like working at a food shelters where feeding the customer matters more than the actual atmosphere of the food kitchen. That's two different jobs and two different purposes, but, equally as important.  It wasn't too bad since there weren't any flowers or whatever and it wasn't many dirty flying around so I didn't get sick too bad. I'll surely come again if I need the hours for graduation, although I prefer working at Loaves and Fishes. Something intriguing about working, serving food to others. I guess I like the idea of working at a restaurant. I've always wanted to be a waiter.

Decided to take a short stroll before leaving
Some scenery

I found a bird
and chased it with my camera.

Afterwards, I ran back while listening to The Adventure by Angels and Airwaves
and it hit the mood perfectly. I suggest any readers to try it sometime in their life or with any similar music and area.

P.S. Well I've been posting in these blogs for the past two years now and it appears this will be my last. (Or I presume) I was in Shawn/Speckel's class last year for Art Academy and this year for AMST. Art Academy English/History taught me what a collaborative classes were like. AMST as of late, taught me about awareness of the problems we had in the past and of now. It's pretty hard to tell which one I like better!

I would make fun of you for calling Brandon Beardo, but I've been calling him Beard Dude for at least a couple weeks, so I won't. Anyway, I'm glad you finally took my advice and volunteered at the Tule Ponds. I'm kind of sad that you'd rather work somewhere else than here for the erst of your hours, but hey, whatever works for you. Were you there the day Zoƫ, Corrina, and Auriana went too, or...?
