Pass,Shoot,Score,Win!!

Today was a pretty tough day. Most of the kids were really acting up and they didnt want to do their work so a lot of the teachers were getting kinda worked up. So I told the little kids to behave or else we wouldnt be going outside to play basketball. It was kinda funny that as soon as I said that all the little kids went straight back to work. One of the little girls asked me for help and I helped her out and I was surprised to see that they were already learing some concepts of geometry like finiding out the measures of a polygon and figuring out if they were congruent or not. I didnt remeber learning that in the 5th grade.

After the kids were done with their homework, some kids had to go to their talent show practices. I stayed behind to help out the staff and clean up the gym. We made sure the tables were put back were they needed to be. When everything was in order and clean we went outside to have a snack and let the kids play some games. Some kids wanted to play basketball so we played knock-out.

I really dont like playing knock-out because Im always the first one out. I taught it was really funny and cute watching the little 1st graders try to make the shot because they are so short and the net is so high up for them. The 5th graders eventually got tired of playing knock-out because they said it was boring so we made teams and started playing half court games. My team was having some trouble with passing the ball and since my team had a mixture of upper and lower classes the older kids were hogging the ball and the little ones were upset because no one would pass them the ball. The first game we lost because no one would pass so we came up with mottos to motivate everyone so we used the one I use fo rmy soccer team which is pass, shoot, score, and win! It worked because everyone started passing the ball around.

Overall these kids are great kids even if they have their ups and downs just like everyone else. They may be annoing at times and be a handfull but with the right push they will achieve many wonders, because after all they are our future.

What is it that you were doing this for? Or where? Is it like an adventure time for kids after school basically? But whatever it is that you're doing it sounds like fun and it's good that you are getting involved with today's youth.

This sounds fun, working with little kids and bossing them around. And like maddie asked where did you volunteer?

I think it's funny how the little kids listen to you rather than the adults. I think it's cause little kids feel like teens are better role models while the adults seem like authority figures. And the kids probably think teens are the coolest people ever. Volunteering with young children give people somebody to look up to.

That is great that they listen to you, and that is probably because you were cool with them. These kids really need this program and us students need to help them in order for them to be a good generation. Kid s learn as kids, thats where everything begins so if we help that generation become better and they can become better individuals then thats is a mission accomplished. The fact that you play sports with them may not seem much, but in the long run it means alot because you are making them active which can make them do better things than be a potato couch.
