Hollister is an American lifestyle brand that originated from Abercrombie and Fitch CO. It’s designed to attract customers of the ages of fourteen to eighteen. The problem with Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch is the fact that they don’t understand that zero is not a size. It’s helping shape the ideology that all women should look a certain way. Therefore they’re brainwashing us to believe that we have to dress like that, we have to look like that and so does everyone else around us! Which is not true, you’re beautiful no matter what, beauty shouldn't depend on the size of your pants or the way you look, it should be based on what kind of person you are. Girls don’t really get this message, cause their so hooked on all this crap. There are young girls out there that really want to be a model when they grow up, seeing models like the ones for Hollister, etc, lowers their self esteem and how they’ll never get where they want to be in life because of their image. The message that this shows me about the American society is that you have to look like a skinny, perfect, and overall someone who has their complete life figured out and that there are no worries in life if you look like that.
The store was launched in the year 2000 and business is still booming, the theme is So Cal and they have Hollister stores all over the world. The brand of clothing that’s sold in Hollister is typically the style of what young guys and girls are wearing in the glamorous West Coast. Abercrombie and Fitch is another branch of this company, and they’re both very similar. Hollister is a very popular and trendy store at your nearest mall. For those of you who have never been to Hollister, it’s a clothing store for guys and girls our age. The inside has very dim lighting and smells like heaven because of their amazing body sprays and perfumes. The employees there are always very helpful, but it almost feels like they don’t hire anyone else except pretty white people. The clothes that are sold at the store are very trendy in California and have found its way throughout the U.S.
Hollister sizes their clothing way too small, how do you think this makes the girls feel that aren’t all that skinny or aren’t all that beautiful? When young teenage girls see this kind of advertisement and such, they become super insecure and go under the influence that they must look like that or society won’t accept them for who they are. If this continues to happen and our stores keep showing these kinds of anorexic and perfect girls to the public, imagine how the teenage girls will look in the next generation. As a teenager, I go to the mall frequently, and to tell you the truth I don’t really have the interest to walk in there and buy something. For example, if you go on their very own store website: hollisterco.com you will see that there are absolutely no plus size models on there. All the models are super skinny and they have no curves, no nothing. I recently read a post written by Grace Bloodsworth on complaintsboard.com. She was explaining how she visited Hollister to buy her 12 year old girl clothes when she asked for help the employee quickly told her that they don’t sell large clothing, and her daughter turned red with tears running down her face. Her being the mother of an overweight child that society doesn’t except just because of her appearance was outraged and walked out. Hollister should probably know that people come in all different shapes and sizes and that zero is definitely not a size.

Hollister really does need to make bigger sizes, the sizes there are so small. The clothing is shaped in a hour glass figure which makes girls wish they had that figure and not be happy with the size they are. More stores should have clothing that will satisfy everyone, and not use to pin-stick models.
This is a great blog post that does come with some other arguments that can come up. For example, obesity has grown tremendously throughout the US and its not healthy. I also agree that its not healthy to be so skinny to a point where there is no fat on your body or anything else. Hollister is a very outrageous store and I have personally gone in and tried on jeans that would normally fit me but they make jeans and other clothes too small there, what makes it even worse is that everything there is really expensive.
Awesome Nabila!
Zero is indefinitely not a size.
Personally there are only two stores I can shop at and ACTUALLY get clothes that I find flattering. But in general it's like.. all these stores' clothes are getting smaller and smaller, when it's obvious that the majority isn't the size of a toothpick. I don't get why they haven't caught on yet.
I also agree with what Lynn and Isabel said. Not only are clothes too small but the shape of it is a bit odd. The price issue is a problem too. I shop at Torrid and I've seen a pair of jeans that were $150, but you could get three pairs of jeans for that same price elsewhere. That's ridiculous. Why would anyone pay that much for simple things? It's unfair for everybody and anybody.
I guess these fashion industries think we're all rich and size two, and curvy like a model... But newsflash.. Hardly anybody is.
I think your blog is an excellent example of the ideology of stores having only clothing fo r very small people and in way it's almost as if the stores were trying to control us because sometimes when I go into a store and try something on that I love and know I would and it doesn't fit I ge so depressed and mad at myslf so then I have to remind myself that I'm areal woman!
This is a very good example of the way the society makes people feel certain ways about dominant ideologies such as this one. The point you made was very clear and true. Hollister has gorgeous models and when people see these kind of things they are easily convinced that they should look like something there not.
Good Job LALA <3
