My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! CULT PHENOMENON!

My Little Pony: Friendship is magic is a animated TV series created by Hasbro that was first aired in the United States last year in 2010 by Lauren Faust. This show's original target demographic was originally geared towards little girls due to its very childlike art style and characters.

There are 3 different types of ponies called the unicorns, the earth ponies, and the pegasus ponies. The 6 main ponies are Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy.Unlike what most people would think, the character's wide array of personalities are far from being "completely girly". Each of the character's personality is unique in their own way. Twilight Sparkle is the morally good-willed studious one. Rainbow Dash is the agile and athletic tomboy of the group. Fluttershy is the really nice one who loves animals and is well, shy. Applejack is the tough, hardworking farmer and almost as athletic as Rainbow Dash. The only characters that would technically come off as a feminine character are Rarity for her vanity and Pinkie Pie just because she is pink.

As for the art style, people would usually generalize that with a cartoon for little girls that the art style would come with a vibrant array of pink, purple, glitters, and sparkles. Well this so called girly cartoon stands out from the rest as it generously balances out different colors and shades. For a show with the title, "My Little Pony" you would be surprised that not everything is a light purple, pink, or baby blue. But there are rather darker and more mature colors such as dark violet and blue and such as portrayed by the character, Princess Luna.

The events that take place aren't necessarily all that feminist either. Throughout the episodes there are virtually no tea parties. But rather there are welcome parties, celebration parties, birthday parties, and "cutecineras" which celebrates when a filly(a young pony) as achieved their cutie marks when they have found their life purpose.

The show became so popular that there weren't only females watching the show but also males from the age of about 15 years to almost as old as 30 years old! This television series is a prime example that no matter what age group the media is aiming for, anyone should be able to enjoy watching a TV show about ponies and not get criticized for it. Just like with anything popular, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic caused the fan base to spawn different captioned images and parodies. Surprisingly, this promotional video below is actually an OFFICIAL video created by HUB.

I think all of the ponies represent femininity and the power to be strong and female. The creator of the show is a woman so she could have designed the ponies to represent an aspect of a stereotypical females, the fact that the girl ponies are the majority of the casts shows that Canterlot is more of a female-dominated world. Because tides are changing in the dominant ideologies , and younger men are more open to stronger females, this show is accepted by a broader range of watchers.

Also what is up with all the Pinkie Pie pictures? XD

Okay Brian, 1: You would.
And 2: The show is a perfect example of the rejection of the dominant ideology of typical female stereotypes. It's great to see a show that steps out from the norm and lets girl characters take the lead, because it helps the idea that females can be independent and strong catch on and grow.
