Drake, Find your Love??

Luis Rodriguez

Mr. Shawn

AMST History, Period 1

21 September 2011

My dominant ideology im doing is love. Im doing a song and its by Drake (Aubery Drake Graham). My song ill be introducing is “Find Your Love”. It is relevant because everyone around the world has love. Love is all over the world and it is used every single day. Some controversy is said because in some of Drake’s music there is a lot of hate towards girls that didn’t love him and refers to them as heartbreakers. Theres a lot of controversy about whether or not a music artist should stick to a side of either loving a woman or either hating one.

“Find your love” was released on April, 28, 2010 in the album “Thank Me Later”. Drake is a very popular artist especially for teenagers. He has been selling discs and discs, and his passion is music. He tends to talk about girls in a negative way. His music sometimes says it all about how he feels.

Controversy has been said about this song because in all his other music he talks about forgetting the girl and wishing she never exsisted. For example in this song he uses these lyrics “I better find your lovin’, I better find your heart, I bet if I give all my lovin’, nothin’s  gonna tear us apart”. He means it as he wont stop until he has the love of the woman that he wants. While in the song “Marvins Room” he says this “Forget that nigga that you love so bad
I know you still think about the times we had
I say forget that nigga that you think you found
And since you picked up I know he’s not around”

So as you can see theres controversy whether he loves woman or not.

Lil Wayne "Best Rapper Alive"

Edgar Unzueta
Mr. Shawn
AMST History, Period 1
21 September 2011
Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. , as referred “Lil Wayne”, one of the most popular artist in the music industry today. Every song he comes up with seems to be very popular and relevant to teenagers. A lot of teenagers listen to his music. I’m doing the song “How To Love” that came out in the 2011 in the album “Carter 4”. In a way this song is causing a little controversy with society and the way women look. That causes to make all his other songs very difficult to understand. He always talks about having sex and using women in his music and in this one song “How To Love” he expresses how women should love themselves. The stereotype in Wayne is that in a way all African Americans are “bad”.
Lil Wayne is a very talented rap artist. He started ever since the age of 7, released his first album at the age of 12. He was sent to jail for the possession of guns and drugs. He got out of jail and that’s when he released this song in the album Carter 4. This song became a very hit song on the radio and internet.
This song is very popular and it is dedicated towards women that have insecurity problems. Wayne is trying to say that a girl should love herself no matter what. For example in this song he says “When you was just a young’un you’re looks but so precious
But now your grown up
So fly its like a blessing but you can’t have a man look at you for 5 seconds
Without you being insecure
You never credit yourself so when you got older
It’s seems like you came back 10 times over
Now you’re sitting here in this damn corner”
Looking through all your thoughts and looking over your shoulder” He is trying to say that Women shouldn’t feel bad and love themselves for who they are. That they shouldn’t feel insecure no matter what they look like. And that we should love ourselves always. But some people would argue that side of Wayne because the fact of the rest of his music. For example in the song “How to Hate” also released in the Carter 4, he says, “And I don't love them girls
But don't mess up with Wayne cause when it "Waynes" it pours
No really, I'm on my "forget that girl" stuff
You used to be the stuff, but now you ain't stuff, girl
I had a red bone, but she be tripping though
All that crap is for the birds, she was pigeon toed
She used to always say, forget my niggas
And when I went to jail, she did my niggas
Well, I guess I'm single for the night
And you can sit right on my middle finger for the night
And if I sound mad, then you caught me
But this stuff explains that you're the one that taught me, how to hate a girl” As you can see he pushes away the girl and tells her to forget him and to move on because he already moved on. Another example in the same song, “Coconut Ciroc
Forgive and forget, girl I already forgot
I'm over the girl, and she over the top
They say love is the key, somebody changed the lock
Well, and I wish I never met ya
And I heard you're doing you, and you heard I'm doing better
And all I had to do was put two and two together
But that just makes four, but not four-ever, damn
So much for being the perfect couple
I put in overtime, I was working doubles
I wish you the best, good luck boo
Weezy F, for forget you” So he talks about the girl as she hurt him so he is expressing himself as he already forgot her. So as you can see people would argue with that.

Young Gully- Cry

So i decided to do it on one of my favorite east bay rappers called Young Gully. I chose his song called "Cry" because he raps about all the struggles he has been through and also everything he raps about is real and is really happening right now in the ghetto like Oakland. His songs show how people just like us are struggling to survive in the ghetto and do what they have to do make money, like sell drugs or other things, even if it means dieing for it because they do not know better and were raised in that type of environment.

Even though no one really knows who Young Gully is because he is a underground rapper and not like those mainstream singers. He actually raps about what has happened in his life and what he is going through. Also he is very lyrical, but does not get enough credit, because of where he is from and how he represents himself, but like I said, most of those people have no choice but do what they have to do to survive. Put yourself in their shoes and see if you can walk a mile in them.

Eminem Recognition

Marshall Bruce Mathers lll, as we all came to know as ‘Eminem’. Born in St.Joseph, Missouri Eminem had a very hard life ever since he was little. Born in the year of 1972, entering a group at the age 14 they signed their first song in 1995. He later became solo creating multiple albums and throughout his years he has gotten himself in very bad drug and alcohol situations. Whats truly recognizable about Eminem is that he actually raps about things that he had went through and draws a picture in your head of what it was like for him. This says that if you really set your mind to something you can accomplish anything, and he really shows it coming from practically nothing as too where he is now.

This song is called ‘Lighters’ ft. Bruno Mars produced on July 6,2011 and in my eyes I see how it relates to the life he lived. A line in this song is “feel free, but from now on I’m refusing to ever give up, the only thing ill give ups using no more excuses.” Another line was “I love it when I can tell them to shove it cause it wasn’t long ago when Marshall sat flustered lack lustered cause he couldn’t cut mustard muster up nothing brain fuzzy cause hes buzzin woke up from that buzzer.--..cause there was buzzards circlin around his head waitin fer me to drop dead.”

This song basically just talks about how he wont give into stupid people and let his past get in his way of something he has worked so hard for. It’s also about how he had gotten into drugs but this year is a new year and he wont give into any of that or relapse like he had done plenty of times before. Saying it was so hard for him to come back from his darkest place and most people cant do what he did because he had motivation from “all the people talking s*** tv shows, radios, b*****s gossiping” .This song is just so true that when you really listen to it you see where he is coming from, and have mad respect towards him and what he has gone through.

Life It's Always A Struggle & Just For Hustler's!

“Day by day” by C-Locs it’s an important video because its shows the dominant ideology of how a man is important to a family. This song came out on 2011, this video is also discussing our society and how he survives “struggling” in these hard times, so he can feed his family and pay for other things and that faith its important to live day by day. This work is part of a broader trend that has building for a period of time especially when our society drop and jobs were running out. In some part this shows that a man should be strong and that he needs to bring money to the house so his family can survive. It also showing that by been a “ gangster” as people say, that he is not good to society but what they don't know is that he has family to look after, and in order to survive he needs to struggle and do anything to make it day by day and don't end in prison or dead like his homies. This work shows that America see a certain people as no good and kind of push them out of society just because of what they use or what they look like and the things they do or have done, it just stereotyping them without knowing them. It says that in society people should be "productive and good without any errors", but for gangsters their life's are not always good but full of problems, just risking everything day after day.

Well "Day By Day" will speak by itself once you listen to it, it will show how people struggle for their families and that they are not always safe, always having faith to make it to the next day. But i will explain a little about the author. C-locs is from San Jose and he is a gangster that raps about what he has been through not like other rappers that rap fake things that they haven't lived and became famous by it. And during an interview he mentions that society stereotypes them and talks that they make music that can be heard on mtv or any tv show even the radio but it sucks that they are mexicans and that's a downfall because the media spit so much sh*t, about the gangs and the way they work. And that people feed that to the media that they don't want music on the radio or on tv because it shows what they are all about and if they do, its going to spread. That's whats stopping rappers to really getting out there.

"For all them raining days and all the drama there is a better tomorrow, keep your head up homie don't let them get you down". He is saying that everything is not always bad just keep your head up and don't let people get you down. "My only mission from the heart try to make it in this rap thang, is so my kids don't have to struggle is this dirty game". That he needs to do music in order to get money so his kids wouldn't suffer. In the chorus this lyrics "And before they found me sleep i pray the lord my soul you'll keep" its saying that before he dies he prays his soul is with his family like him to look after them even tough he is dead. Finally this shows the american ideology of man "For my family i got to maintain strong, yeah its hard but i got to bring my family through", that he needs to be strong to get his family up and to struggle so they will have a good life.

GTL Lifestyle (The Jersey Shore)

The Jersey Shore series seen on MTV is important in pop culture because they show the life of partying, fighting, relationship problems and working. Now days a lot of people in America are dealing with those four things, so they can somewhat relate to this show. The Jersey Shore first came out almost two years ago on December 3, 2009. This show has been building over the years, they’ve made four seasons already in different areas of the world. The Jersey Shore is a reality TV series that shows you how Italian people from New Jersey live their life. This show very well supports the stereotype in society because they show the lifestyle of a “Guido” and “Guidette” which is an Italian person who wears tight clothing, mostly likely from the East Coast like New York or New Jersey.

The Jersey Shore is about eight random strangers being brought into a summer house in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. The Jersey Shore series brought together Angelina, Ronnie, Vinny, Mike “The Situation”, Jenny “J Woww”, Nicole “Snooki”, Samantha “ Sammi Sweetheart” and Pauly D. The first two seasons Angelina was in the house and for the 3rd & 4th season Angelina was off the show and there was a new roommate to the show named Denna. Their life during the summer mainly revolved around drinking, partying, working, relationships and the drama that comes in and out of the show. In the end they’re all brought together like one big family. The guys on the show go by a saying they call “GTL” which stands for Gym, Tanning, Laundry because that’s what most of them do. The show is very entertaining and funny to watch because of all the crazy things they do.

Throughout the show Ronnie and Sam have been dating on and off. It caused a lot of tension and drama in the house because they would argue all the time, so the other roommates in the house would get into it since they’re trying to help Ronnie and Sammie out. Towards the end of season two in Miami there was a lot of drama going on between Sammi, Jenny and Nicole because Jenny and Nicole wrote an anonymous letter to Sammi about Ronnie and what he’s done as in cheating and doing stuff behind her back. The other roommates eventually found out that it was Jenny and Nicole who wrote the note, Sammi felt betrayed by them because they were best friends in the house until this happened. The drama was left in Miami and the starting of the third season the drama continued between the girls leading to a fight between Sammi and Jenny.

A Day to Remember

A Day to remember just came out with a new album “what separates me from you.” The second song on the album and one of my favorite song by them is “all I want.” He sings about people giving him shit for doing what he wants to do. Also about helping people that feels alone. People think they know what’s best and tell him what to do and what’s best. He just wants to do what makes him happy. People always do what someone says whether or not they want to. He’s saying he’s done with all that. He says “know the words I speak are the thoughts I think out loud” he’s not hiding anything.

Jeremy from a “day to remember” wrote this great song about what he wants and not mindlessly obeying every one. “While everyone around me says my last days are looming overhead.” He still goes despite what they say. He felt alone because everyone turned on him. It defiantly goes against the grain of society. “When I comes down to it you don’t need anyone c’mon” now a day’s everyone thinks you need friends and family. He can do it alone like a boss.

What's Your Teenage Dream?

‘Teenage Dream’, a song released on July 23, 2010 from Katy Perry is relevant because despite that it came out last year, the song is played everywhere on the radio. It still is popular today and you can hear it mainly everywhere like the radio or in parties. This song reflecting the ideology of teenagers spending their youth to the fullest before they turn into adults.

‘Teenage Dream’, like the title of the song, is about the dreams of teenage and their teenage life. In this song, Katy Perry is talking about her love life when she is a teenage. Before she met her boyfriend, her life is alright but with not much fun. But all those things changes after she met the one that brought her to the real life of teenage and make her life complete. She wants her life to be complete and has no regrets. Her boyfriend makes her feels like she's living in a teenage dream, which all the things are perfect and wonderful. She said that when he looks at her, her heart stops and she can't believe all these things happening because they are so great. She wants to do all the things she wants to do and doesn't need to be regret later on because she already did what she wants to do.

I think 'Teenage Dream' brings out the ideology of teenager's life which teenager should have a happy and perfect life, like how Katy Perry is in the song. But now, most of the teenagers don't have a perfect life like Katy. Most of their life are stressful and full of problems because of school, family or relationship problems. Although many of the teenagers are in a relationship, but i don't think their relationships are like Katy Perry's. So i think this song wants to show all the teenager how their life should be during teenage, happy and perfect!

Here's the mv of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream:

Don't Look at Me...

“Beautiful” sung by Christina Aguilera was recorded on December 24, 2002 and was officially written by Linda Perry who hadn’t shared it until a couple years after it was written. To Linda Perry it is a very dear and personal song to her. This piece of music discusses the beauty of people in general and by watching the music video you can feel the acceptance of all diversities. This song reached number one in many countries (Canada and the UK) and placed number two in the United States. The song also won a Grammy award and ranked fifty-four in rolling stones as top 100 songs of the decade. This song has a very great impact on people when it comes to having insecurities. “Beautiful” helps people realize that they’re not alone in the world and that everyone is looking for acceptance. Typical stereotypes are shown through out the video and it is reflecting the dominant ideology of beauty.
“Don’t look at me” mumbles Christina Aguilera at the beginning of the video. Insecurities from all kinds of people are shown through out the music video, such as an anorexic girl looking into a mirror still unsatisfied with her appearance. But what’s even more amazing is that the video also shows people getting over their insecurities and just being happy for who they are. For instance a gay couple makes out on a city bench while people stare and pass by on the busy sidewalk. The music video shows many different scenarios of people going through difficult obstacles just because they are being themselves. Even though these obstacles can cause people to have insecurities, at the end of the day they are really just happy to be who they truly are. The music video and song is trying to tell us that beauty has nothing to do with our appearances and or the importance of what we think others might believe beauty is. Beauty is someone who stays true to who they are, what they do and what they believe in.
The song “Beautiful” basically talks about the beauty of all types of people. It enforces that a person is beautiful in every single way (own way) this which makes them a unique individual. “I am beautiful in every single way, words can’t bring me down.” It also argues that people shouldn’t be brought down for being themselves. “ Words wont bring me down, so don’t you bring me down today.” Individuality is a beautiful thing. “We’re the song that’s out of tune, full of beautiful mistakes."

NCIS Los Angeles is an american series combining elements of the military drama and police procedural genres, which premiered on the CBS network on September 22, 2009. It is relevant to discuss it now because of our down economy and people choosing wrong paths in part of jealousy and anger. Where investigating team is finding the criminals who killed their friends or relative in place of jealousy. The work is simply parrt of a broader trend that has been building for a period of time. While she got fired NCIS hired her in their team. This show is basically on investigating crimes and solving miseries.

When the NCIS team was called over while, the trans-passing people at the airport couldn't believe them. They thought NCIS was just a game so, they couldn't go but, however they did went to the plane from agent. It's in your DNA, you're gay!

Gay culture has been relevant since Socrates' time, Shakespeare’s time, and, of course, today.  Culture has gone from “So?” to “You’re putting WHAT, WHERE?” to “Pray the gay away” and “God hates NAGS”.  If you live in America today, you are sure to see a frown or smile when two men stand too close, or when two women past their grade-schooling years hold hands, depending on one’s geography.  Though this issue of rights hasn’t made as big of a stain on our history as racism (yet), it will continue to stand out until equality has been achieved.

In 2003, Avenue Q went to Broadway.  It includes a song entitled “If You Were Gay”, a number where Nicky ensures his friend that he will be supportive if were he gay, but poor Rod just wants to be left alone to read.  Rod seems very displeased at Nicky’s choice of conversation, playing the closeted conservative roll, while Nicky plays the open friend.  While both characters are gay, they play different rolls and have almost polar reactions.

Rod is obviously uncomfortable -- “Why should I care?  I don't care.” -- and even Nicky isn’t completely complacent about it, putting a “no homo” tag at the end of the chorus -- “But I’m not gay”.  Even though these characters are gay, they’re closeted, revealing the ugliness that is homophobia towards oneself and the idea that “it’s okay as long as it isn’t me”.  These two ideas that can be spotted throughout pop culture -- see: The Merchant of Venice, In and Out, Brokeback Mountain -- and can harm the psyche for both the individual and most who associate with them.

Daft Sheen

Charlie Sheen is the most controversial actor in Hollywood to date with his unpredictable antics like the past interviews he has done. His big antic was him quitting Two and a Half Men after filming the final episode of Season 7, purportedly due to his rejection of CBS's offer of $1 million per episode as too low. He also attacked the creator of Two and a Half Men with verbal attacks. His antics in the “Good Morning America” and Today Show have caused a broad loud of fan base and caused many hits on YouTube. He was fired from the Dominant Ideology which is CBS and basically broke down with his crazy antics and saying he is “Winning”.

In the "Today Show" interview, Sheen said he was "special," and was tired of pretending that he wasn't. He also said that considering what he brings in for CBS, he is under paid. On "Good Morning America," Sheen, speaking to Andrea Canning, said he was on drugs. It's called Charlie Sheen. And it's not available, because if you tried it, your face would melt off. He said he was going to defend his life "violently, through violent hatred."He promised he would sue CBS for "tons" of money. "They're going to lose in a courtroom. So, I would recommend that they do an out-of-court settlement and fix this whole thing and pay the crew and get season nine back on board." He said his family needs the money to "fuel the magic."In part two, Sheen said his brain is incredible. “It fires in a way that is, I don’t know, maybe not from this particular terrestrial realm.” He also says he's not bi-polar, but rather, “bi-winning.” When asked about the last time he ingested drugs, he said he does not remember. He said the last time, he was banging "7-gram rocks [of cocaine]." When asked about possibly dying from drugs, he said "dying's for fools." He said he is not going to relapse, because he won't. He "blinked and he cured his brain," he added. Charlie Sheen said he was proud of giving people all those drugs and partying as he did. He said he was proud because he was exposing people to "magic."

In Charlie Sheen’s recent work he was a big shot, a womanizer, a dominant person. He was one of the most paid actors in the business and unintentually became a big drug addict and wild crazy person. He basically showed what happens when on drugs and saw the true colors of him. He said that he said that it was a while that he ingested drugs but you can see that he was on something when seen in the interview. Even though he is one of the craziest actors he means well and made a big spectacle in TV history.

Are lion's heart's Imunne to feeling "feelings"

Kid CuDi's "Heart of A Lion" represents the problems that come your way and you have to keep your head up and your heart strong and not give into the “dark forces”. It show’s common ideology in the way people believe that they over come and do better for them self. It is a up-beat rhythm that makes you feel empowered that will go toward an ideology of power and resistance. I believe what the cudster is saying is you mustn’t let the “dark forces” that effect you, effect you. They are best dealt with a powerful heart and will and don’t let “anything break me”. He keeps repeating “at the end of the day.” he is trying to say in my representation nothing is forever you will go on and life will continue, And it will be better. When the Kid says “Cleveland” the city he is from, he means a place your happy and safe a place you feel the best and most protected. He is showing common ideology in every single word of the song!

The way he show’s ideology is by giving a common goal of happiness and power. Kid CuDi isn’t just American ideology he is a worldwide force that relates with everyone by showing common problem’s that everyone has today. In Kid CuDi’s image it shows a person that grew up with many problems and now has overcome it “at the end of the day” he is a better man. He is a positive ideology to younger people, his influence is mostly positive to most. “please save a kid that needs some help and I can't see ahead of me so I move in stealth.” This is telling people that there will be problems and you might fall back not to be noticed, and it's alright to be the kid who is hiding. Most of the world doesn’t see anything wrong with Kid CuDi projecting marijuana, some might say they see it in a positive way, other than U.S.A because it is illegal to most by the government. Every one fallows his ideology, and they don’t even know it, his ideology of happiness and overcoming problems and staying strong and not letting current problems effecting you.

The message shown is one I support, and I have conflicting feelings. I like the way he relates to kid’s to help them threw their problems, and my conflicts are because I don’t understand his cause. He is a big part in Ideology that kids and adults act by most of the time just living it, trying to make you better is Kid CuDi’s ideology. He show’s this in all of his earlier songs. He is a big force in the music industry because of his original type of song’s that are a rare mixture of song, rhythm, beat, and rap. He will affect the world as long as his music gets to an ear.

Ice Cube - Gangsta Rap Made Him Do It *EXPLICIT CONTENT*

Gangsta Rap Made Him Do It!

The song ‘Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It’ by Ice Cube , is relevant to pop culture because it discusses how now people are saying the word “n*gga” is a bad word and how weed is the “worst” drug. This song came out in 2008 and causes controversy to our government or society. Controversy because the word n*gga is mainly used by African Americans and todays society create consequences for those who utilize the word. The message in this song , I think , is how Ice Cube tries to “back-up” his race by saying how is the society going to tell me now that I can’t say n*gga , when back then the society was full of that word. Its a big impact because it goes out to all those African Americans that use the word n*gga and it also breaks prevalents among stereotypes. I think it reflects ideology because our society/government have been fighting war on drugs for a very long time , and especially now on the “drug” weed. Same with how the word n*gga has been fought about for a long amount of time in our society as well and here I assume Ice Cube is trying to reveal to society that , n*gga is not a bad word , any one can use it , and to not let society tell him other wise when back years ago , they constantly used the word.

What's this all about ?!

I think Ice Cube made this song to contradict those who oppose “n*gga” and drugs such as weed are bad. When , in history , they didn’t do anything when cocaine was coming back. I also think , Ice Cube in this song is trying to reveal to those who don't understand , a realization that the word is not bad and how society tends to be hypocritcal/contradicts it self. Ice Cube brings up history , how when years ago they did the opposite of what they are doing now. I think what Ice Cube is trying to do now is show how crude the society was years ago , how contradicting society is now.

Sources and Quotes

“But aren't you the same cat that sat back when they brought cocaine back
How you muthadukas gonna tell me don't say that
You the ones that we learned it from I heard n*gga back in 1971”

What Ice Cube states in his song ; “you the ones where we learned it from. I heard n*gga back in 1971” By you , he is talking about every one who believes n*gga is a bad word , which is usually the elderly folk now. When , in that line , he’s saying they(African Americans) learned the word n*gga from the white society back in 1971 , so why can’t they use it now ? Also , at the same time this song also refers to drugs. “But arent you the same cat that sat back when they brought cocaine back?” Talking about how now , weed is all bad , illegal , nothing good for the youth. When , back in the days , when they brought cocaine back , nobody did anything about it. They just let it be and didn’t bother to fight back on the drug war .

If you really listen to the song and pay attention to the lyrics , it will surprise you.

Everyday I'm Tumblring

Tumblr was founded in 2007 by David Karp. This website was unknown for a couple of years. Months by months, people started creating a Tumblr as they discover it. Started on July 2010, Tumblr scored million unique visitors in the United Sates in July 2011 – up to 218% from July, 2010. It got really popular up until today. It’s a website where it allows you to post text, images, videos, links, quotes and audio to their tumbleblog. Users can follow other users , or you could choose to make your tumbeblog private. In honesty, I think it is just a broader trend going around on the website of Tumblr. This reflects the ideology by the stuff people posts.

Tumblr is a website where you see unique things posted that you rarely ever see in reality. You could also see interesting, or amusing things in your eyes. For example, there’s this one picture of a man planking on top of a whale, and on top of the tallest building. It’s crazy, isn’t it? Sometimes it’s like an advertisement going around. For example, like the upcoming iPhone 5. It’d show how it would see like, and how it works. There’s this one video of a yellow, bird dancing to the song “I Flip My Hair Back & Forth.” Pretty interesting. Also you would see beautiful, flawless, looking girls getting positive comments. You see all types of things on Tumblr.

I think Tumblr resist the dominant ideology of the society. For example, when you see a gorgeous, looking girl getting bunch of notes, and getting reblog with positive comments, it does bring your self-esteem down. Sometimes you really shouldn’t feel this way, because a girl in reality doesn’t look perfect like that. It’s insane, because some girls actually hurt themselves for not being like “those girls.” Girls just start to think negative stuff about themselves, and try their best to look like them. You see, they’re not being themselves for who they actually are.

One Day

The song “one day”, by Matisyahu is important because it talks about not fighting in wars because it doesn’t matter who wins or loses its about just having peace.  This song resists the ideology of countries always in war and destroying places, making it unsafe for children and families.  It can reflect todays war like in Lybia or Afgahanastan because they are wars that we really don’t need to be in. They just cause more harm to us. This shows how America is always in a war for no reason. Well not always for no reason but reasons that we Americans can't figure out why we are in. For example Lybia.

His full name is Mathew Miller but his hebrew and stage name is Mtisyahu. He is 32 years old and the types of work or genres he mixes in are rock, reggae, and occasional beat boxing. Also some songs include hebrew chants. He wrote this to tell everyone that war is not the answer and even though it does happen good times will come back around soon. So he does have a negative feeling of wars but is positive about better times in the future and hopefully without war and where we all are safe. It was used in the Olympics as a peace song, which it is. Most of his songs are of peace and religous value due to his hebrew background.

"All my life I've been waiting for I've been praying for, for the people to say that we don't wanna fight no more they'll be no more wars and our children will play". This is a great way to reflect his views that he is trying to put out with the song. Its a dream that he has and i believe he thinks that we should all have that dream to just be peaceful with eachother. It also reflects his religon when he says "ive been praying for" so it can hint that he is religous but also show its an important topic that should happen.

Giving Off

Giving Off

Adele’s song “Set fire to the rain” is relevant because she simply writes songs about her ex-boyfriend who broke her heart. Grabbing the attention to many girls who have had broken hearts. She has grown to be popular artist in this year. With many of her songs being heard everywhere and having people singing along. Her song represents the ideology of the American dream of having a perfect relationship. Of course she is going against the ideology showing what does happen and how relationships are hard to manage.

In her songs she briefly talks about how her relationship with the guy was once so perfect. Throughout the songs she then sings about the things that he started doing to push them apart. All the things that started going wrong to end their relationship. Even though she is hurt there are parts in the song where she shows she is still trying to get over it.

What I like most about the song is how she is showing her true feelings about everything she felt throughout their relationship. Her experience to get over what had happened and her journey in every song to forget and let go of what used to be. Adele is expressing and showing that the ideology of the American dream about having the perfect relationship doesn’t always work out. The down side of it all is shown in most of her song just like this one. Here are some examples of her songs to show different aspects of her song.

But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true
And the games you play, you would always win, always win.”

Here she shows where he started doing wrong breaking apart the relationship.

“When laying with you
I could stay there, close my eyes
Feel you here, forever
You and me together, nothing is better,”

Adele now shows how their relationship was before she started to figure out the person he really was and in this part shows how the apart American dream ideology is suppose to be. Adele is a young artist that is drawing the attention of many people around the world and making people fall in love with her songs.

7 pounds

Seven Pounds

7 Pound a 2008 film, directed by Gabriele Muccino and based on a script written by Grant Nieporte under Colombia picture this movie is important and relevant because it caused raise funds for food banks in Cleveland, Miami, Dallas, St. Louis, and Denver. Although critics didn't like it, it was a very successful film and it is rated 7.6 out of 10. This movie is different. "Do you consider yourself good? And how would you answer that question if I asked you the same...Emily" Well in this movie Ben (Will Smith) takes it to the extreme. He says that "In seven days god created the world... in seven seconds I shattered mine...Ben" Well you might be thinking how and why but before reading the rest take a second and ask yourself "If you consider you self a good person? "

Now the question is what the definition of good is. Well many societies and countries say that you have to be good but are good also respectful and caring. In this instance yes, this movie shows that America even with a great economy doesn’t have enough food, housing, and medical support for everyone. I mean according to the LifeSharers, a national network of organ donors the amount of people who needs organ has topped over 100,000.

In this movie Ben contacts several people who is in need of help and tries to help them some are easy but others he goes and kills himself to give others the chance of survival. The major reason is the death of 6 people in a car crash including his wife. Though out the movie he has night mare of that night. Not able to hope he decides to kill but before he calls an ambulance and tell them that he is committing suicide. He commits suicide by sitting in a tub filled with cold water, then he gets his pet jelly fish in the tub too. After being stung by the jelly fish he dies and donates his organs to the people he contacted.

In this movie Ben has giving his life always for others. This movie shows the most common ideology of caring. In so many ways I mean before he commits suicide he tries to get to know the people who will receive his organs most of them he was able to met at least once. But with Emily he goes beyond and really tries to understand the extend of her condition in a matter of fact he knows that Emily has a very slim chance of survival, because of a heart condition. Ben says “It is within his power to drastically change the circumstances.” and he is able to stick to his word.

Its all about facebook!

                                                   Its all about facebook!

Define Facebook.
Facebook is a social networking website launched in February 2004 that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc., with more than 500 million active users.

Why is Facebook Important?
Facebook is important because it is one of the top social networking sites, quickly gaining on Myspace in terms of total users and traffic. Facebook presents a unique marketing opportunity for businesses through the creation of Facebook Business Pages. As more people explore social media, social networking sites have become some of the key online sources they use to learn more about products, organizations, artists and world events. Marketing on Facebook has a viral effect – information spreads through networks exponentially.

Facebook in my view is an ideology under liberty because it has helped everyone to say what they think about certain things. It has help us communicate easily with our friends and families. It has given us freedom of speech by letting us share our thoughts. I hope people use this for good causes and spread ideas that can help people.

No Magic Words

Darius Rucker’s song “I Got Nothing” came out May 15th, 2011. In the song it talks about how a woman wants to leave and the man doesn’t want her to, but he doesn’t have any magic words to tell her to stop her from leaving. Other popular songs by him are “Don’t think I don’t think about it”. This song talks about how even stars hurt and how they think about the past, and it’s hard to leave someone that you love. This song is helping shape ideology because it talks about a fight that led to someone leaving, and it shows how Darius feels. A lot of people can relate to that, having someone leave them. It really stops and makes you think and wonder if you could have done anything or said anything to stop someone from leaving you in the past or the near future. This song to me breaks a stereotype about love and relationships, because they’re not all perfect like they make them out to be.

This song, “ I got nothing”, in the beginning talks about the setting of the song and how he’s stayed up all night apologizing to his wife. They knew what this fight was going to lead to, and they’ve been waiting for it for a long time. He wants to say something to change her mind, but he doesn’t know what to say. He was hoping maybe if he said something then it would buy him more time to think about what to tell her. He has nothing to say though, to stop her from leaving, and to stop him from hurting. All he does is pray to God, hoping to give him something to say as he watches her pack her bags. Then, take off her ring, slip it off. He wants to get down on his knees again with that ring, and tell her what she wants to her, but he just says he has nothing to stop her from really leaving. He says towards then end, “If you go I got nothing”. And then she leaves.

This song goes against the dominant ideology of love and relationships because; it talks about the heartbreak, and the hurting. Our country’s ideal love relationship is perfect, and happy. It never really talks about how the relationships end, if they do end. It doesn’t talk about all the hearts that are broken and the pain at night when you’re feeling lonely. They don’t tell you that when the word love comes along, I don’t know why. And that’s what this song talks about, how to handle someone leaving you, and that’s what you got to be ready for when you are ready to love.

Is Everything Going To Be "Gone"?

For my cultural analysis project I am doing the song Gone by Switchfoot. It was released in 2003 in the double-platinum record, The Beautiful Letdown. This song is addressing a belief that has been in the United States ever since the time of the Puritans which was this dominant religious ideology of putting God above anything else. With it actually supporting a religious ideology it is refuting the Rags to Riches ideology. This song was the premier hit of that platinum-record which means a lot of people loved the message.

The song itself is about disregarding material things for what they are... material. Materials rust, fall apart, and just turn into dust “All the riches of the kings end up in wills”. What lasts forever is the afterlife and the choices that you made that took to either side of it. What lasts forever is the love of God.

Switchfoot says "If you get the world and lose your soul" indicating that the whole idea of gaining worldly possessions is just futile. They further support their religious ideology with "Every moment that we borrow brings us closer to a God". If you think about it in the end you can't take anything after you die. In the end all you have is your soul.

The Kings And Queens of What?

The piece of pop culture is a song from my favorite band The Devil Wears Prada, called “Hey John, What’s your name again?” In the song it tells of the superficiality of people currently, and how their images are what are most important to them. The song captures the image of our current society perfectly. In this particular song I believe that it tells that being popular, the concept of fashion it all means nothing which is bringing down the current ideology of fashion being so important. If you just put a little thought into the lyrics of this song you can easily see that they are saying fashion, popularity, and everything that goes with that all mean nothing, they’re not important and it never will be. This results in others starting to think about going against the crowd, changing their thoughts on fashion, popularity, and become less superficial about their selves. This over time will begin to break the stereotypes of popular and not popular people, fashionable and the not fashionable, making the world a realer place to live, not one full of fake people and the ones who just want to be the “pretty ones.” America being a powerful country comes up with powerful ideologies about things, about how we should live, look etc. Personally I find it sad when people get caught up in those thoughts and ideas of how things should be, even though I know it happens to us all.

They start out the song stating that people claim to be the kings and queens of fashion. But it all doesn't really mean anything. Then goes on about how these ideologies have twisted our ideas into how we think life should be. Then finishes out with how we must find ourselves within, and no longer worry about what the world wants.

Specifically in the Lines "The concept of fashion is the one to blame,” then, "This shall pass, megalomania congratulations on a mutilation of life" it is saying that fashion has built up this ideology in our heads to be rich, pretty, and even powerful. It has mutilated the way we think, it takes control of our lives and we begin to forget what we live for. People have begun to work to be better than others, to be the ones at the top instead of working with each others to make the world a good place. In the video the boy represents the people of today falling into the ideology of fashion and popularity, the bird falling represents the evil of this ideology taking over. But when the boy walks over to the bird and the bird is healed and fly’s away it represents how with not letting the ideology take complete control of us we can be saved, we can be our own person.

"Born This Way" --- Self Acceptance

I think the episode "Born This Way" from the show Glee is relevant or important because this episode discusses that everyone should love the way they are and be proud of themsleves. The show Glee was aired on May 19, 2009. This particular episode was aired on April 26, 2011 in the 2nd season. I chose this particular episode because every teenager feels uncomfortable with their body at some point and this episode resist the idealogy of a teenager changing her body to feel good about herself. Many people think its fine to have a plastic surgery to change something they dont like about themselves, but other people, like myself, think its ridiculous that changing your body your letting people put labels on you of your imperfections. This epdisode shows that America supports the ideology that you have to be a perfect teenager and that you got to do what you have to do to have that perfect life including the perfect body.

In the episode of "Born This Way" from the show Glee one of the main characters, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), has an accident that results with a broken nose. After a trip to the doctor he proposes to Rachel to take an opportunity to get a nose job. Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) and Puc (Mark Salling) try to convince her otherwise and that she doesnt need to change anything to look amaizing!

Even though she is stuborn about changing her nose, until Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer) convinces her by telling her that her idol Barbra Streisand had refused to change to alter her nose. At the end of the epidose the Glee Club comes together and all sing together to Lady Gagas famous song Born This Way. This incredible song about self acceptance and knowing that God made everyone the way they are for a reason. To celebrate everyones self acceptance they perform "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga while wearing a white shirt with what they feel insecure about themselves to embrace their imperfection that makes them unique.

What made me think of this particular episode of Glee, is that theres characters that play the role of putting her down and others trying to convince her that those imperfections she doesnt appreciate are they best part of her. The people who put her down are related to my ideology because in America theres always obsticles and people that keep from reaching their goal. For example, when Santana tells Rachel that its the perfect excuse to get her nose to look better, Santana is trying to make her feel bad, The poeple that helped Rachel from getting her nose job are the poeple give you financial and emotional support in hard times. For example, when Puc and Finn try to convince her that she doesnt need to change for anyone t like her just the way she is.

soemtimes it feels like this world is spinning faster...

"Mayberry" by Rascal Flatts is important because it tells how people used to sit down and talk. They would live in small cmmunites where everyone knew everyone. They didnt have to have their iPhones or Droids in their hands 24/7. It seems like in the past they used to spend more time with their families. Rascal Flatts is resisting to be dependent on technology and incouraging family time to socialize with people face to face.

"Mayberry" is a song of what America used to be. The lyrics are about older days when "people pass by and you call them by their first name", when you could explore more go where you wanted to and you just had to tell someone, their was no fear of beign kiddnapped it was just going out to have fun "sometimes i dream of driving down an old dirt road.. not even listed on a map" and when sons and fathers had bonding time "i pass a dad an' a son carryin' a fishin' pole" and that makes me think of the Andy Griffith Show in the beging when him and his son are going to go fish and his son is carrying the fishing pole. The song also shows how time does pass by and it keeps moving on, "Bui I always wake up everytime I try to turn back." You can't change anything in the past but keep moving forward, just don't completely let go of your past.

Been to hell

For my cultural analysis, i did a song called "Been to Hell" by the band Hollywood Undead. This song's main message is: "people come to Hollywood and expect to achieve greatness and fame, but are unable to accomplish this for reasons of drugs, temptation, and apathy." They go against the dominant ideology in this song and with some of their other songs. In this song they show from their point of view of what Hollywood is really like behind the scenes because this is an experience that happened to them. The ideology behind this is opportunity.

Opportunity is the ideology of this. In their music video, they show a woman happy as can be in Hollywood. But as time elapses, she's in a bad situation and is sad by this because she never expected to be in that kind of situation. People have a belief that Hollywood will make you realize your hopes and dreams. Not really. This song tells that you shouldn't expect greatness and fame, but also look at the real aspect behind it all. The hell that it came really be.

Something that they mention in the song is "You thought these streets were paved in gold but they're dirty and dark." This shows how people's belief about Hollywood is different from the real perspective that they have experienced. And from the last line of the chorus, they mention "Welcome to a world where dreams become nightmares." They, in some aspect, welcome people who came to Hollywood, a place you thought was great, can actually make your nightmares a reality. It's not all glory and fame. Rather dark and nightmare-like.

2012 The End?

In the past 2 or 3 years everyone had been talking about a dominant ideology ' The End of the World'. There were many rumors on the internet about 'When' and 'How'. In 2009 a science fiction movie came out name: '2012', base on the prediction of the end of the world. This 2012 talking might also been just a rumor people saying or a guess work of a certain person. It is also bad to say the world might end, which is not helpful to the citizens in the world at all. In fact, it might panic the country, and society thinking that they're going to die anyway in 3 or 4 years and depress about it for people who believe in these thing.

The movie is about a Scientist who found out about a massive solar flare causing the temperature of the Earth core's to increase. Later on, everyone knows about it and the world start to end slowly. The billionaires prepare a huge massive ship that float and fly. People started to rush into the ship and some were dropped to the sea from pushing in rush for survival since the water started to increase and later on it touches the Mount Everest. The whole movie is about a family who tried their best in order to survive in order to reach the massive ship. They overcome all kind of disasters and problems.

The belief of the end of the world might be true or it might not be. As I've said, these beliefs affect on some believers. There're many times people said the world is going to end in the past many years and nothing happened. I naturally disagree with these ideologies, and people should just stay normally as they always do instead of worry about these things.

Jessie J Gender Roles

Jessie J is a British artist whose ideology is gender roles. Jessie J is a very independent woman who knows she doesn’t need a man support in order to be successful. In her song Do it like a Dude she talks about how woman can do everything a man can. And this song had caused a lot of controversy.

In Jessie J song states that some men think that they are better than us women and that we are not as worthy as them. But Jessie doesn’t think like this. In this songs she states that woman are as equal as men and that we can be just as good and as strong as them. There is a lot of stereotypes like woman are supposed to be housewives and just take care of the kinds and clean while the man works but this song states otherwise. There has been a lot of controversy with this song because it is playing gender roles. But not only is this song causing controversy but its helped many woman take a stand in what they believe in.

Jessica Ellen Cornish (Jessie J) was born in Redbridge, London. Her album Who you are was entered the charts on 6 March 2011 where it charted on the UK Album Charts at number two. One of her best songs is Nobody’s perfect.

Even tough Jessie J is an independent woman and knows where she stands, she knows who she is and she admits when she has done something wrong. In her song Who you are she says a lot: “just be true to who you are” basically saying that you shouldn’t be afraid of who you are and where you came from. But also in her song Nobody’s perfect she says that you shouldn’t take the people who you love and are there for you for granted and that people will make mistakes no matter who you are.

“But I never meant to hurt you, I know it's time that I learnt to treat the people I love like I wanna be loved this is a lesson learned , I hate that I let you down and I feel so bad about it
I guess karma comes back around cause now I'm the one that's hurting yeah and I hate that I made you think that the trust we had is broken so don't tell me you can't forgive me
cause nobody's perfect,” These lyrics are from her song Nobodys perfect and its basically stating that people make mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance.

We R who we R

We R who we R by Kesha is relevent because she explains that people shouldnt care about how they look and to live up your life to its fullest. in this song she talks about partying and having fun and to always be young at heart. The way she wrote this song was to get out the trend that being yourself and being perfect the way you are should be enough to make you happy. To me the ideology of this song and how it affects our society is confidence because everyone person in this whole world has a different perspective on life and how they look. Alot of individuals dont have the high confidence that makes them feel better about them self. Those people who have that high confidence put down those people that dont and it affects there confidence severely.

In this song, to me, Kesha refers to like a young adults life" We're dancing like were dumb our bodies going numb we'll be foever young you know were superstars we R who we R". Her ideology like i said is just how people are so judgemental of eachother and how they live their lives and their appearances. The way people treat you, should not have an affect on the way you treat yourself by putting yourself down and lowering your self esteem.

This song to me is very important because i feel strongly about the confidence level in people whether it is high, low, negative, or postive. The positive side of Kesha shows when she sings" tonight were goin' hard just like the world is ours we're tearing it apart you know were superstars We R who we r" really expresses her take on confidence and in her persepctive is to not think about what other people think.

The Stereotypical Life

The song "California girls" by Katy Perry is relevant to the society because it reflects a way of how we should live today. Katy Perry talks about being beautiful, fun, and perfect which reflects the dominant ideology because in this world today, that’s supposedly how we should live. In California we should all have Sunkist skin and have Jeeps. This song could be trying to make people start a trend of how you should dress, or what kind of activities you should participate in. This could cause a controversy because all people in California do not live like this and it could cause a stereotypical argument. This song is definitely relevant to society because it reflects a way of dominant ideology.

In this song by Katy Perry, she talks about how the grass is greener in California and basically how beautiful it is. She refers it as, “The Golden Coast” and starts saying how California girls are fine, fresh, and fierce. Katy Perry also says that the girls all wear daisy dukes and bikinis. And that the girls all lay under the palm trees and have jeeps. I personally think that she can be reflecting her way of how she portrays California. It also could be how she lives her life.

Some of the lyrics in this song can cause a big controversy on how California girls supposedly live. Katy Perry says,"California girls, We're unforgettable, Daisy Dukes, Bikinis on top, Sun-kissed skin, So hot, We'll melt your Popsicle". This basically reflects the dominant ideology of how California girls live. She portrays them as party girls, and beautiful people. This can be considered a good pop song, but it does also have some stereotypical lyrics in it. Katy Perry makes this song relevant to todays society because it reflects the dominant ideology of how California girls live.

3 doors down

3 doors down is a very popular band that has been around for a number of years, but when we are doing a story about dominant ideology a particular song comes to mind. The song is called “let me be myself” and it follows a story of the singer singing to a girl who wants to control him. However to me there is a deeper meaning to this song. I believe the woman he is talking to is a metaphor for the world and society taking over who he is. This song is really talking about how he got up in the way society wants him to be and then realized he doesn’t want to be the way society wants him to be. He is fighting the ideology of the world and wants to just be himself.

In the song the very first line is “I guess I just got lost being someone else” which means he lost track of who he was. He continues to say this “Please would you one time let me be myself?” which obviously symbolizes him talking to the world and asking it to stop with stereotypes, and things and let him be who he really is. This song really shows how everyone can be affected by events in the world and it can change peoples personalities.

I like this song because it is completely disagreeing with the dominant ideology. When talking about dominant ideology you think about the world or the certain events in it that shape your society, and that is exactly what this song is about. What really got to me is the lyric “That's all I've ever wanted from this world… Is to let me be me” because that’s exactly what dominant ideology is, and the person in the song is rebelling against it. I believe this song affects people in a positive way, it tells everyone who listens that you should always be yourself and not always do what society wants you to do.
“For a while, if you don't mind, let me be myself”

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is an important and relevant story because it is about Greek Ideology. Greek Ideology is important because even today we use in our buildings, our books, and many other things. The Dominant Ideology of Greeks makes us believe in things that can also be applied to our society. This movie came out in 2010. This work has been building over time and it part of a broader trend because it is a fantasy series. It is has became popular even today with our architects, for example our ampitheater has even been built in the form of the theater of Homer's Book: The Odyssey. Even though we still use these ideologies, people still think that that Greek Ideolgies are Myths.

This movie is about how the son of Poseidon is under investigation because of the burglary of Zeus' Lightning bolt. Zeus tells Poseidon that he has until the summer solstice to make Percy bring the bolt back to the Empire State Building which is where he must return the bolt or else the gods shall come to a battle between themselves. Zeus keeps on sending signs that he is angry and he sends bad signs to let them know that there time is running out. Along there way, Percy's mom is captured by Hades and they go to find three pearls that will lead them there. The first pearl is where Medusa resides for Percy, Annabeth, Grover and the bolt, where then they are witnesses of a poor woman who is turned to stone by Medusa's eyes. There next stop is at the Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee, where then they are confronted with the Hydra, a beast that grows twice the amount of heads when you cut one off. They, then get the pearl and leave off to there third stop which is in the Lotus Casino in Las Vegas where they are addicted to Lotus flowers and are there for approximately five days in which then Percy is reminded by his dad, Poseidon. After that, they all come to mind, get the pearl, steal a car, and then are on there way to Hell, where his mom is, which is behind the Hollywood sign. In hell, they meet Hades and Persephone. Hades then, warns Percy to give the bolt or his mom will be vanished. Percy remembered that the shield belongs to Luke, son of Hermes, and then Persephone takes the bolt and blacks out Hades. The story is resolved by Percy returning the bolt to Zeus, after taking down Luke in a fight over the bolt.

The inner meaning of this movie, is to not steal and the ideology reflects that because Athena is the god of wisdom. That means that Luke, the son of Hermes had no wisdom, therefore Luke had no knowledge to understand that he was doing something wrong. It reflects on Greek Ideology because they believe in the gods, especially like this one, the god of wisdom, Athena. The stereotype for this movie is that Zeus did not believe in the other Gods having kids that are demigods. In the scene, where Percy is fighting toward the end with Luke the power of wisdom does still not reach him and he ends up unconsious/ dead, that is how everything ties in. Luke is like the main character because if he did not steal the lightning bolt, then none of the greek ideologies or the inner meaning of this movie would not be useful.

Dr. Dre Cultural Analysis

A person that is important in Popular Culture is Andre Romelle, best known as Dr Dre. He is important because of his Music and albums like The Chronic and his songs like Nothing but a G thang and the cool beats he makes, everyone knows him from his beats and all he did in pop culture. He is the founder and current CEO of AfterMath Entertainment. and also the founder of Eminem, Eazy-E, 2pac,50 cent he brought alot of good artist to the West coast music culture, He was also in a very famous group called N.W.A with ice cube,eazy-e,MC Ren,and Dj yella. His recent songs he released was KUSH by Dr Dre and Snoop Dog and I need a doctor with eminem. The whole country is waiting for his new album THE DETOX, Dr Dre is a legend icon to all the Artist in America.

Dr Dre was born in February 18 1965 he began his in music as a member of the World Class Wrecking Cru. And later found fame with a influential gangsta rap crew N.WA.After that crew broke up he made an album call the chronic ,that album sold alot, then he made another album call 2001 it was also a big seller. And he won the Grammy producer's award the next year.Dr Dre best known song is Nothing But a G thang. his recent songs that he just took out is Kush and I need a doctor. But he steel has one more album that he finished already but he hasn't released it yet.But that album is going to be his last one.

Dr Dre affects this negatively because in the bad language he says in his songs and about drugs and saying F*** the police.like here is one of his quote when he talks about weed"to add to my collection, the selection symbolizes dope, take a toke but do not choke". Theres one quote were he talks about weed .I think Dr Dre is a good rapper and when he signs about drugs you cant really tell because he is just good in rapping, but sometimes he goes too far like in that one song BAD INTENTIONS.I think that Dr Dre can affect ideology in both ways,in a bad way by coming out in his videos smoking weed and guns. And a good way by making music that people like. I think that Dr Dre is one of the best pop culture in America ,and he should take out his new album already.

Harry Potter: A Cultural Analysis

Harry Potter, the best-selling series by Joanne Rowling, touches on various points of controversy and important happenings that are going on today. The last book came out in 2007, but the last movie just came out a few months ago, and sparked a renewed interest in book fans and non book fans alike. The books and movies have slowly been getting attention over the years for their going against the norm of society. It rejects the dominant ideology by criticizing the way society is today, and how we should work to fix it by breaking stereotypes and changing (or working past) problematic ideas.

The series is about how the Dark Lord Voldemort tried to kill Harry Potter when he was a baby. He managed to murder his parents, but when he turned his wand on Harry, his curse backfired and rendered him incapable of having his own solid form, so he fled, leaving Harry as an orphan. Through the years, Harry grew stronger and continued to thwart Voldemort's plots of his murder, till the very end on his last adventure, where he finally triumphed over the Dark Lord for the last time.

The Harry Potter series rejects a lot of dominant ideologies in American culture. From the beginning, Albus Prcival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was seen as a symbol of wisdon, kindness, and security. People had an immense amount of liking and respect for the man, but next to no one picked up on one of his most important features: he was gay. He had a crush on his teenage friend, Gellart Grindelwald, and put off their final duel for years because of it. Should people change their ideas and respect for Dumbledore based off of this new realization? The book forces people to think about this. Something else it makes people think about is how far people will go to avoid what disturbs their lives. For years, Dumbledore had told the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, that Lord Voldemort would be back, and for years, Fudge ignored him. When Harry saw the rebirth of Voldemort at the end of his fourth year, Fudge refused to believe him and spread stories about how both he and Dumblrdore had gone insane for almost year. It was only when Fudge saw Voldemort for himself that he finally admitted that he might be back. Fudge, and the majority of the wizarding world, ignored rising deaths, dissappearances, attacks, and the words of Albus Dumbledore in favor of staying in their comfortable, safe, happy world. The book points out how society is scared of danger, and will ignore it for as long as possible, even untill it is almost too late.
