There are many lessons that I have learned in the Civil Rights Movement unit. Freedom is a big part of that lesson, because without the civil rights activists, America wouldn’t be how it is today. without them we would still be segregated with everything, schools, busses, and work. the chances of Barack Obama being president now would never have been possible if it wasn’t for the people like Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, or Rosa Parks. if it wasn’t for their commitment to protest the world would be amazingly different.
The struggles that we have today concerning equity would have to be our economy. lets face it, it sucks. Because the economy is hard, they have to raise the prices on everything that the government has control over, like gas. Don’t you think that the gas prices are insane nowadays? Anyways some equality issues that we have still today is racism. Like, for example, if a African American and a white person apply for the same school, it is more likely for that white person to get into they school because of his racial profile. Even if the school hasn’t seen the two students they will base the sounds of their names to see if they sound threatening, and see if the can get into the school. but if your name is like Eric, you have a higher chance to get into that school because your name sounds like a white guys name.
Some events that that came from the civil rights movement is the occupy Oakland protest. They do their form of protest in a non-violent way. They do a form a freedom of speech, and they do sit-ins, by staying in that certain property for a long period of time. Even day and night. Another protest that was done not a while back is where a group of kids with disabilities, took 25 wheelchairs and the put it to surround a bus so that is cannot go anywhere, they did that because the bus driver was not letting the students onto to the bus because of their disability.
